General Education
The City of Oneonta is home to a significant number of educational institutions,
most notably Hartwick, SUNY Oneonta, Utica School of Commerce, the Oneonta
Public Schools, and various Christian oriented educational institutions. The
community possesses specialty and vocational institutions such as the Otsego
Area Occupational Center (BOCES), the Oneonta Job Corps, the ARC, and the Utica
School of Commerce.SUNY Oneonta
The State University of New York at Oneonta is located on a 250 acre campus with
an annual enrollment of approximately 5,500 students and a full and part-time
staff of 978. SUNY Oneonta offers over 50 undergraduate major fields of study
and 20 graduate programs, in addition to international study, cooperative
programs and pre-professional study. Sixteen "Red Dragon" varsity sports are
offered, as well as the facilities of the Chase Physical Education Building
which houses a gymnasium, bowling alleys, handball courts, and a swimming pool.
SUNY Oneonta also has the new Alumni Field House. The facility is home to the
women's volleyball team and the men's and women's basketball teams and has a
seating capacity of 4,000 in the Dewar Arena which also icludes an indoor
running track above the main floor. On the Atrium level there is a state of the
art fitness center, two racquet ball courts, a dance studio and concession
stand. The lower level houses the new training room along with the equipment
room and lockerroom facilities.Hartwick College
Hartwick College is situated on a 375 acre wooded hillside overlooking the
valley. It has an annual enrollment of 1,500 students and a full- and part-time
staff of 400. Hartwick College offers 30 undergraduate degrees. The Hartwick
"Hawks" participate in 20 varsity sports, some with NCAA and ECAC affiliations,
and a nationally competitive Division I Men's Soccer team. The Binder Physical
Education Center houses gymnasiums and other recreational facilities. Hartwick
is the summer home of the well known and respected Hartwick College Summer Music
Festival and Institute and offers many summer programs for all ages in sports and the arts.
Utica School of Commerce
The Utica School of Commerce offers day and evening college level courses in
business. USC offers one year diploma programs and two year associate degrees in
office technician, business management, business administration and accounting.
In addition, USC has been awarded branch campus status through the State
Education Department in Albany; which means that all required courses can be
taken in Oneonta.
